As a service provider I have come to the realization that as people we know a lot more than we think. So often I have been constantly rushing to get the next course or the next certificate to prove competency. In some cases this even included taking on more webinars or consults ignoring what I already knew from experience.
I decided to invest in some consults and webinars this past summer. Under the impression they’d provide me with a magic key and change the game for me.
When I actually went through the consult and even the five day webinar I was shocked. Everything I was being told was nothing just common knowledge I just never claimed or fully acted upon. This experience left me with three insights:
1. Don’t get up sold due to rash decision making or being offered a deal.
Rushing will cause you to unnecessarily spend and have a pour output in most cases.
2. Take inventory of your knowledge: Consider what your skill set is.
Do you have any specific knowledge regarding the topic you are working to master or the problem you intend to solve?
3. Is the investment you are considering worth it?:
Will you get a quality return?
Do you really need to invest in this course or do you need to take action?
Will this course or consult provide you with fresh intel?
Who is the source of this information you’re seeking? What is their track record?
